Throughout the Hidden Valleys and Killarney region you have many options if you love to fish. Also being a short drive away from the Atlantic Ocean whether you like sea,river or lake fishing you will be truly catered for.

Trout and Salmon fishing are the most popular with trout fishing being license free on the lakes of Killarney at the foot of The McGillyCuddy Reeks.

You can fish for the Atlantic Salmon for a small licence fee. The River Laune and Caragh River are both famous spots to spend a day fishing for the likes of Brown & Rainbow Trout as well as Salmon. For more information on the main fishing areas please see below

Lakes of Killarney

Lough Leane, Muckross Lake and the Upper Lake make up the Lakes of Killarney situated with the Hidden Valleys of The Reeks in Co. Kerry. These are part of the River Laune catchment. Trout fishing on Killarney’s lakes is free and for a small licence fee you can hunt for the magnificent wild Atlantic salmon.

The start of the season is on January 17th and runs until the  30th of September with the best time of year to fish the lakes is between the months of April and September. All legal angling methods are allowed on the Lakes of Killarney.

Laune River

The River Laune drains the Lakes of Killarney and provides anglers with excellent salmon and trout fishing opportunities. The river flows in a north west direction for 17.5km through Fossa,Beaufort and Killorglin before entering the Castlemaine Harbour. Along the banks you will see great nature and wildlife while fishing this river.

Caragh Lake & River

The Caragh River and lake drains a catchment of around 170 square kilometres and has a  good runs of both Salmon and Grilse every year. The Caragh lake holds a large stock of wild brown trout . You can rent boats along the lake for your fishing trip. The peace and tranquility of the surrounding area just adds to your fishing experience.
